Congressman Derek Tran Calls on Trump to Sign Bipartisan Housing Legislation Without Further Delay

Garden Grove, CA – Today, frontline candidate and Democratic nominee Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, called on President Trump to sign the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act into law.

On June 23, 2026, Congress passed this legislation to lower housing costs, simplify construction regulations, cut government red tape, and increase access to housing loans for working families. However, Trump has refused to sign the bill into law until Congress aids his attempt to disenfranchise millions of voters ahead of the 2026 midterms, a brazen slap in the face to working families who are already struggling to get ahead.

“Donald Trump is a sore loser because he can’t take credit for our bill that lowers housing costs for millions of Americans,” said Congressman Tran. “I was sent to Congress to make life more affordable for Southern California families. While I’m proud of the critical housing investments I’ve secured for our communities, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act will go even further to provide relief for our entire country. Mr. President, sign the damn bill.”

Specifically, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act will lower housing costs for Orange and Los Angeles County families by:

  • Increasing the supply of rental properties;

  • Restricting large corporations from buying single-family homes and increasing local housing prices;

  • Eliminating government red tape to streamline housing construction;

  • Expanding access to low-cost housing loans for the 18,000 veterans in California; and

  • Strengthening access to housing benefits for disabled veterans.

Congressman Tran has been a champion for working families across California’s 45th Congressional District. In his first term, Tran secured $250,000 in federal funding for affordable housing construction across Orange County. Additionally, he is a cosponsor of the Saving the American Dream Act and the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act to equip the federal government with the resources needed to expand affordable housing.
