Garden Grove, CA – In a significant win for small businesses, frontline candidate Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, celebrated his bipartisan legislation to support small businesses being signed into law.
Congressman Tran, Ranking Member of the Small Business Committee Subcommittee on Oversight and a small business owner, introduced the Small Business Innovation Research Foreign Interference Safeguard Act to strengthen intellectual property protections for small businesses and mitigate risks of intellectual property theft by foreign governments. The legislation was signed into law on April 13.
“Across the country, small businesses serve at the cutting edge of innovation,” said Congressman Tran. “The Small Business Innovation Research Foreign Interference Safeguard Act ensures our small business community has the necessary resources to protect themselves from foreign governments like the CCP that are seeking to steal intellectual property and threaten American innovation. I’m proud to work with my colleagues across the aisle to help small businesses across Orange and Los Angeles Counties.”
The implementation of the Small Business Innovation Research Foreign Interference Safeguard Act comes as Congressman Tran has been a strong advocate for the small business community in Congress, co-leading multiple bills to strengthen small businesses, including:
504 Program Risk Oversight Act (H.R. 5788) to enhance transparency and strengthen efficiency in the Small Business Administration’s 504 loan program;
Plain Language in Contracting Act (H.R. 787) to require contracting opportunities for small businesses to be provided in transparent, accessible language;
Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act (H.R. 832) to ensure that the Small Business Administration advocates for the interests of American small businesses before foreign governments; and
Connecting Small Businesses with Career and Technical Education Graduates Act (H.R. 1642) to simplify the process for small businesses to recruit and retain a strong workforce of career and technical education graduates.
