Congressman Derek Tran Releases Statement Blasting SCOTUS Ruling on Voting Rights Act

Garden Grove, CA – Today, frontline candidate Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court issued their ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, significantly weakening the Voting Rights Act and paving the way for states across the country to limit the voting power of minority Americans:

“Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans aren’t willing to admit that their unpopular agenda has angered Americans and inspired voters to make a difference this November with a Democratic House majority.

“Instead of facing that reality, they had the conservative majority on the Supreme Court take a wrecking ball to the Voting Rights Act that has protected the voting power of minorities for over 60 years.

“I am the son of political refugees. My parents came to this country because they believed in the promise of equal opportunity and real representation. Now, my family, and millions of other families like mine, will see their voices further suppressed. We are losing the power to fulfill the promise of the American Dream.

“This decision is wrong. I’m calling on my colleagues to take immediate corrective action to protect Americans from this appalling ruling. It is more important than ever that we in Congress champion policies that protect the right to vote.”
