Garden Grove, CA – Today, frontline candidate Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, issued the following statement as registered voters begin to receive their mailed ballots on Monday, May 4, 2026, ahead of the June 2 primary election:
“Skyrocketing costs, a fractured healthcare system, and ever-increasing gas prices due to yet another foreign war is what this Administration has delivered in its first year. As the primary quickly approaches, I am confident that voters across California’s 45th Congressional District and the nation will send a strong message to Congress: working families deserve better. We will come together in the face of hate. We will protect our neighbors. And we will keep this seat blue.
“As we get ready to vote, everybody should be aware of a change in the law, pushed for by Congressional Republicans, as a means to decrease the number of valid ballots. As of December 24, 2025, the USPS implemented a new rule stating that postmarks reflect when mail is processed at a facility, not when it is dropped off. This means if your ballot is not processed on or by election day, it will not be counted. In order to be counted, turn in your ballot as soon as possible.
“In Congress, I’ve stood up to special interests and secured resources for law enforcement to keep our communities safe. I’ve worked to lower the price of prescription drugs and pushed for affordable housing. I have been able to secure over $14 million supporting 15 community projects across Orange and Los Angeles Counties. I am honored to be endorsed by local and national public safety organizations, labor unions, and progressive groups, and I am committed to continuing the fight for every voice and every vote to be heard.”
Beginning Tuesday, May 5, secure ballot drop-off locations across Orange and Los Angeles Counties will open for registered voters to submit their mailed ballots. In-person voting will begin on May 30, with select locations open for early in-person voting on May 23. Voters will have until 8 p.m. on June 2 to return their ballot or vote in-person. The last day to register to vote is May 18.
