ICYMI: Congressman Derek Tran Slams Trump’s Iran War on CNN

Garden Grove, CA – Yesterday, frontline candidate Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, spoke to CNN’s Kate Bolduan slamming Donald Trump’s war of choice in Iran amid multiple failed attempts at reaching a deal to end the war.

Congressman Tran, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and U.S. Army Veteran, highlighted how the Trump Administration has repeatedly failed to assure the American people that there is an off-ramp to the war, which has already resulted in skyrocketing costs nationwide.

Transcript: CNN News Central with Kate Bolduan

  • Kate Bolduan: President Trump also said this morning that the war will be over very soon, though he has been saying that very same thing for a month now. How close do you think they are?

  • Congressman Tran: Well, look, I have no idea. They're not sharing anything with us, and this is an Administration that has been unfettered in how they are responding to the international global – on the global stage. So, you know, I hear about the war is going to end, from the news, but I've not seen any action where there is an off-ramp to what's going on right now.

  • Bolduan: The President had said that talks may resume soon, but also is now saying in new interviews that he's not happy with the offer of a 20-year pause of Tehran’s nuclear enrichment program that was made by the Vice President in this, in these negotiations…What does this mean for round two of talks if the President either doesn't know or just doesn't like what they've first offered?

  • Tran: I think it's similar to the first round of talks, where you have a President that has put out there publicly that the deal is not going to happen, that is going to fail. How does his team go in and negotiate? How do they diplomatically find a resolution to what's happening right now when our own leader, the President of the United States, does not believe in a deal?
