ICYMI: Corrupt Republican Chuong Vo Faces Criminal Fraud Inquiry for Alleged Florida Tax Scheme

“Chuong Vo is the poster child of waste, fraud, and abuse.” – Rep. Derek Tran

Garden Grove, CA – In case you missed it, Republican opponent Chuong Vo is facing a criminal fraud inquiry following allegations that he improperly claimed a Florida tax break while claiming primary residence in California during his time on Cerritos City Council.

On September 22, 2026, a complaint was filed with Bay County, Florida, Property Appraiser Dan Sowell alleging that Vo claimed the Florida homestead exemption on his waterfront property in Panama City in both 2024 and 2025. The homestead exemption decreases a property’s taxable value by as much as $50,000. The complaint alleges that Vo received approximately $40,000 in tax relief using this exemption.

The problem? Between 2020 and 2025, Vo was a member of the Cerritos City Council and maintained his permanent residence in the State of California.

“Chuong Vo is the poster child of waste, fraud, and abuse,” said Congressman Derek Tran. “Mr. Vo has to explain to our community which law he violated: Did he serve as Mayor Pro Tem of Cerritos while being a resident of Florida or did he defraud the government claiming a tax break in Florida while serving as an elected official in Cerritos? The American people are sick and tired of corrupt politicians scamming their way to the top, while peddling harmful Trump policies that are hurting working families. Mr. Vo is yet another disgraceful, corrupt politician cheating the system and lying to our community. The choice this November is clear: Vo is a No.”

In response to the complaint, it was reported that Sowell’s office is opening “formal Homestead fraud proceedings” to investigate Vo’s alleged crimes. Congressman Tran stands firmly against corruption, introducing legislation to ban congressional stock trading.
