ICYMI: Congressman Derek Tran Addresses Cancer Research Funding with American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network

Fullerton, CA – Yesterday, frontline candidate and Democratic nominee Derek Tran addressed cancer research and the funding issues that Republican-led cuts to healthcare have caused during a community roundtable in Fullerton, California, hosted by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).

Congressman Tran answered questions from constituents about federal cancer and healthcare policies. Tran then signed ACS CAN’s Cancer Promise, a pledge to support evidence-based public policy solutions that accelerate cures, improve access to care, and ensure the broad availability of cancer prevention and early detection services.

“Healthcare policy is a main priority to what I am focused on accomplishing in Congress,” said Congressman Tran. “My father passed from cancer eight years ago and my mother is a breast cancer survivor. Hearing the stories of those who have been affected by cancer is very impactful, and they encourage me to continue the fight for better federal cancer and healthcare legislation for everyday Americans.”

Congressman Tran has fought for strengthened healthcare benefits for all Americans. Recognizing his record, Tran was endorsed by the Committee to Protect Health Care, an organization representing over 50,000 healthcare advocates nationwide. In March, Tran urged the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to reverse a proposed rule change that would have cut affordable healthcare for disabled veterans. The VA reversed this ruling. In February, Tran’s PBM Reform Act, legislation to lower prescription drug prices, was signed into law.
