Step 1: Download the PDI app
Your packet has the login information on the front.
Tap on the white box with the turf name (e.g. 'SL-Westminster...').
The next screen will show: Street View, Map View, Audit List
Street View: This is a list of the houses you'll knock. Tap on the street and you'll see the the addresses and residents' names. You'll also see the residents' ages, gender, and registered political party.
Map View: This is a map of the turf area with green, yellow, and red house or apartment icons. You will knock on the homes that are green and yellow only. Do not knock on the red houses.
Audit List: This is a list of residences you've canvassed.
We recommend using the Map View to plan your route.
From Street View, tap the street and then tap on an address. From Map View, tap on a house and then the address.
The next screen shows the name, age, gender, registered party, and voter history for the past 4 elections (e.g. VTS-2 means this voter voted in 2 of the past 5 statewide elections).
You'll see four buttons:
Not Home: tap if the voter is not home. Move on to the next residence.
Other No Contact: If you cannot reach the voter because they Refused; or the property is Gated; voter is Deceased; there is a Language Barrier; the Language Barrier is Spanish; voter Moved; or voter requests Do Not Contact.
Not Able to Survey: Property is not gated but is inaccessible.
Begin Survey: Takes you to the script and survey questions. Mark the voter's answers to the question, and tap 'Next' to go to the next question. You can also leave comments.
Read through the survey before you start canvassing. We encourage you to give the survey in a conversational way. Some canvassers even like to practice it a few times beforehand.
Leave literature: If someone is not home, you can leave the "lit" we give you under the mat or stuck in the door. IT IS ILLEGAL TO LEAVE LITERATURE IN THE MAILBOX.
If the voter is not interested in taking the survey because they don't have time, you can offer to leave the lit with them.
Questions about voting: On the Survey screen, in the top right corner, tap the 'Vote' Box icon. This will show the nearest polling location for that voter.
In-person voting begins Oct 26

DO NOT TAKE THEIR BALLOT. We are not taking ballots at this time. We will offer training for that later. They can mail the ballot from their home or a post office.
Once you input survey answers or indicate that the voter is not home, PDI will take you back to Map View or Street View so you can go to the next residence.
Return to the homepage where it says "My Assignments" at the top.
Tap on the "hamburger" icon in the top right corner.
Select Sync Lists. PDI should sync your list as you go, but we recommend this step just in case.
If you have questions while you're out, the front of your packet has contact information for a field organizer. Feel free to call if there are problems or issues.
Each packet has a list of do's and don't's, as well as Derek Tran's Biography and Key Talking Points.
Rachel: "Be sure to wait a bit for the voter to come to the door. Sometimes it takes them a while."
Abhijit: "Stand a little bit away from the door. Give them some space."
Kayhan: "Be kind and happy. Don't get disheartened if they don't answer the door or don't want to talk to you. At the end of the day, what you're doing really does make a difference. Also- you are not a solicitor, so if they say, 'No solicitors,' you can say that you aren't."
Julia and Abia: "Be positive and be sure to leave a good impression of the campaign. And, the script is a guide. Feel free to do it your own way."
Davis: "If you feel discouraged, keep your hopes up, a better house is around the corner."
