MoveOn Endorses Congressman Derek Tran

Nation’s leading grassroots progressive group supports Tran in his high-stakes race to ensure legislative wins nationwide

Garden Grove, CA – Today, MoveOn Political Action, the political arm of MoveOn, endorsed frontline candidate and Democratic nominee Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California.

MoveOn has been central to the resistance movement against the Trump Administration, fighting for everyday Americans through mass mobilization of voters and digital activism. In recognition of Congressman Tran’s record holding Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans accountable, MoveOn’s endorsement reflects Tran’s commitment to lowering costs and creating a more equal society for all Americans.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement from MoveOn Political Action,” said Congressman Tran. “As a grassroots campaign since day one, I understand the importance of mobilizing everyday Americans to bring change to the community. With the Trump Administration gutting protections for millions of Americans, it is important now more than ever to deliver accountability and justice. I’m proud to be fighting alongside MoveOn in their fight for a more equal and just society.”

“MoveOn is proud to endorse Rep. Derek Tran,” said Katie Bethell, Executive Director of MoveOn. “Southern California families deserve a fighter in Congress who is focused on lowering costs, protecting our democracy, and creating a more equal and just world. In his first term, Rep. Tran has delivered for working families, standing up to Donald Trump’s extreme, billionaire-first agenda. We are proud to support Rep. Tran’s reelection to continue advocating for families across Southern California.”

Congressman Tran has been a champion of working families since entering Congress, delivering over $5 million dollars in federal benefits back to constituents in California’s 45th Congressional District. In June, Tran sent a letter to House leadership condemning a provision in the Build America 250 Act that allowed for rideshare companies to escape accountability from any injury, sexual assault, or fatality that occurs during a ride. In April, Tran’s legislation strengthening protections for small businesses was signed into law. In the midst of the Trump Administration slashing affordable healthcare and SNAP benefits, Tran sounded the alarm on the harm that these cuts have brought to the economy and to working families.
