Garden Grove, CA – In a major win for working families across Orange and Los Angeles Counties, frontline candidate Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, announced a historic achievement returning over $5 million in federal benefits back to constituents.
Amid Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans’ broken, pro-billionaire economy, Congressman Tran has returned nearly $3 million in Small Business Administration grants, $1.5 million in federal tax refunds, and over $600,000 in Social Security checks.
“Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have made it their mission to sideline working class Americans in return for tax breaks for their billionaire donors,” said Congressman Tran. “In CA-45, my first priority will always be serving hardworking families seeking to fulfill the promises of the American Dream. While Republicans continue to push their extreme agenda that has increased the costs of gas, groceries, and health care, I’m committed to lowering costs and delivering immediate relief to Southern California families.”
This announcement comes as Congressman Tran has led multiple initiatives to deliver for working class Americans and stand up to the outrageous economic policies of the Trump Administration.
Last month, Tran urged the Department of Veterans Affairs to immediately reverse a disastrous policy that would have made it more challenging for disabled Veterans to access affordable health care. In February, Tran led bipartisan legislation to lower the costs of prescription drug prices by reforming the PBM industry. And in a recent op-ed for MS NOW Opinion, Tran sounded the alarm on the effects of Republicans’ unprecedented cuts to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funding that went into effect April 1st, 2026.
