Congressman Derek Tran Releases Statement in Response to Deadly Shooting at Islamic Center of SD

Garden Grove, CA – Today, frontline candidate Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, issued the following statement following reports of an active shooter at the Islamic Center of San Diego, leaving five dead as of 3 p.m. PST:

“I am outraged and disgusted by today’s deadly attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, and my thoughts are with the families impacted by this cowardly act of gun violence.

“It is unacceptable that Islamic community centers across California have dealt with an increasing pattern of violent threats and attacks. This is not who we are as Americans, and we must never tolerate these attacks on our Muslim neighbors and to our religious freedom.

“Those who perpetuate such violence must be held accountable. I will work closely with law enforcement to ensure that the fullest extent of justice is served and that our communities have the necessary resources to defend public safety.”
