Congressman Derek Tran Secures Recovery Support for Small Businesses in Garden Grove

Garden Grove, CA – At the urging of frontline candidate and Democratic nominee Derek Tran, who represents the most competitive House seat in Southern California, the Small Business Administration (SBA) approved the request for a Disaster Declaration in response to last month’s hazardous materials incident in Garden Grove.

SBA’s Disaster Declaration will support ongoing recovery efforts by providing low-interest disaster loans and additional resources to local small businesses and private nonprofits. These disaster assistance loans can be used toward fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and additional expenses that could not be met because of the incident.

“As a result of the hazardous materials incident in Garden Grove, over 5,000 small businesses lost wages and profits critical to their operations,” said Congressman Tran. “As a small business owner, I know firsthand the importance of government support during unprecedented disasters. That’s why I took immediate action to secure a Disaster Declaration from the Small Business Administration as our community continues to recover from this crisis. Our vibrant small business community is the heart and soul of Southern California. We need to make sure they are supported.”

Starting tomorrow, June 16th, qualified small businesses and private nonprofits can apply for these loans by visiting https://lending.sba.gov or the Business Recovery Center at 12966 Euclid St., Garden Grove, CA 92840. The deadline to apply is March 11, 2027.

Following the hazardous materials incident in Garden Grove, Congressman Tran coordinated closely with local and federal emergency officials to secure resources and evacuate residents. On May 23, Tran hosted a virtual phone bank with volunteers to reach out to impacted families and share urgent evacuation details. On May 25, Tran secured a Federal Emergency Declaration to obtain additional public health resources. Tran has called on the leadership of GKN Aerospace to take full accountability for the panic and anxiety thousands of residents experienced across the region.
