Garden Grove, CA — In one of the most closely watched contests of the 2024 cycle, MAGA Rep. Michelle Steel finds herself in an increasingly precarious position as new revelations expose her deep ties to disgraced Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do. The Do scandal is just the latest blow to Steel’s embattled campaign, three recent public polls show that the race between Steel and her Democratic challenger, Derek Tran, is now a dead heat. Last week, the election experts at Inside Elections shifted their rating of the race in favor of Tran, acknowledging the surging momentum behind Tran’s campaign and the impact of the scandals surrounding Steel.

Michelle Steel’s history of unwavering support for Andrew Do is well-documented, with numerous public statements lauding his leadership and character. Despite Do’s mounting controversies and the recent FBI investigation, Steel has consistently aligned herself with him, raising serious concerns about her judgment. Below are just a few examples of Steel’s effusive praise for Do over the years:

Michelle Steel Praise For Andrew Do

  • December 2014: “‘Orange County is facing a lot of change, to keep the County moving in the right direction we are going to need leaders who will represent the people and their values. We need Andrew Do on the Board of Supervisors’ said Steel. ‘Andrew Do has the qualifications and the drive to be a great representative. He knows the issues facing his community and he knows how to lead. Andrew has my full support.’” [Andrew Do for County Supervisor via Internet Archive, 12/11/14]

As a reminder, Michelle Steel’s personal involvement in Orange County corruption scandals runs deep, stemming back to her tenure on the Orange County Board of Supervisors alongside Andrew Do:

During her time in Congress, Michelle Steel has consistently voted against the interests of her community while relying on funding from Big Oil, gun lobbyists, and anti-abortion extremists. Despite her claims of representing middle-class values, Steel has opposed measures to lower prescription drug costs, including voting against capping the price of insulin. She voted against common-sense gun safety legislation such as raising the age to buy semi-automatic weapons from 18 to 21 and against enhanced background checks– a slap in the face to her constituents who have been devastated by the scourge of mass shootings. Further distancing herself from the needs of Orange County, she voted against a bill to strengthen U.S. competitiveness and bring jobs home, and against the bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection.  Steel’s fealty to the MAGA Right knows no bounds– even going so far as to apologize to GOP supporters for working on a bipartisan bill to condemn hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
