VIDEO: New Derek Tran Ad Slams Michelle Steel’s Extreme Anti-Abortion Agenda

New Ad “3 Minutes” Highlights Steel’s Co-Sponsorship of a National Abortion Ban with No Exceptions for Rape, Incest, or the Health of the Mother, as Race Tightens

Garden Grove, CA —  Today, the Derek Tran for Congress campaign released its second general election ad, highlighting that incumbent MAGA Rep. Michelle Steel TWICE cosponsored a bill to enact a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother and eliminating certain medical choices for women, including some cancer treatments and IVF. Michelle Steel’s extreme voting record and the actions of her Republican colleagues make it clear: they are determined to end reproductive freedom nationwide -  and impose their draconian views on California.

Narrator: "It can feel like the longest three minutes of your life.

One tiny line could change everything.

Especially if you don’t have a choice.

Not even after what you endured.

And that’s what Michelle Steel and the MAGA extremists want:

A nation ban on abortion with no exception;

Women forced to give birth to their rapists’ child.

That line will change everything.

But so can your vote."

The ad comes as three recent public polls show that the race between Steel and her Democratic challenger, Derek Tran, is now a dead heat. Both the election experts at Cook Political Report and Inside Elections shifted their rating of the race in favor of Tran, acknowledging the surging momentum behind Tran’s campaign and the impact of the scandals surrounding Steel.

Since taking office, Steel co-sponsored a national federal abortion ban that includes no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother; voted against the Right to Contraception Act, which would protect a person’s ability to access contraceptives; and voted yes on a bill that would have banned FDA approved Mifepristone nationwide. Despite being called out repeatedly by her challenger, army veteran and workers’ rights advocate Derek Tran, as well as the New York Times and Rolling Stone Magazine, Steel continues to lie to her constituents about her extreme anti-reproductive rights voting record. In 2021 and 2024, Rep. Steel cosponsored the Life at Conception Act, a bill to enact a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother. Steel voted against the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act of 2022, which protects a person's ability to access out-of-state abortion services. She opposed the Women’s Health Protection Act in both 2021 and 2022.
