Rep. Mark Takano Endorses Derek Tran for CA-45

Garden Grove, CA — Today, U.S. Army Veteran, Consumer Rights Attorney, City Commissioner, and Small Business Owner, Derek Tran who is running in California’s 45th Congressional District, announced the endorsement of Democratic Representative Mark Takano (CA-41). Takano serves as the leading Democrat on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

“As the son of Vietnamese refugees, Derek knows first hand the hard work and sacrifice that so many have made to make the American Dream possible,” said Rep. Takano. “Derek enlisted in the army out of high school to give back to the country that has given his family so much. Derek is rooted deeply in Southern California, serving as a City Commissioner and a practicing Workers Rights Attorney, standing up for immigrants and workers that have been taken advantage of by corporate special interests. CA45 boasts the largest Vietnamese population in the Country, and Derek knows this community, is from this community, and will continue to fight for this community and all Californians in Congress. I am proud to endorse Derek Tran for Congress, and work with him to support our Veterans, tackle gun violence, and lower costs."

Takano’s endorsement comes on the heels of an endorsement from Rep. Zoe Lofgren, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, and several local elected officials. Tran announced his run less than 2 months ago, establishing himself as a frontrunner by raising three times what the combined Democratic field raised for Q3 2023 in just two weeks.

California’s 45th is a Congressional District representing portions of Orange and Los Angeles Counties in Southern California. A majority-minority district, the District has the second largest AAPI population (36.97%) of any Congressional District, and the largest Vietnamese community in the country. President Biden won the current district lines by +6 points and it has a +6 point Democratic registration advantage. It includes all or part of the Cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Cerritos, Buena Park, Placentia, Hawaiian Gardens, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Artesia, Los Alamitos, La Palma, Brea, Lakewood, and Fullerton, as well as the unincorporated community of Rossmoor.

The DCCC has listed it as a “District In Play.”
