Congressman Tran Releases Statement After the Trump Administration Ends EPA Pollution Regulations

Garden Grove, CA – Today, Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration took the unprecedented step to strip the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of its legal authority to regulate pollution, ignoring decades of scientific findings that have shown the existential threat posed from climate change:

“The decision from the Trump Administration to no longer accept the long-standing scientific fact that climate change poses a real and existential threat to our communities is careless and dangerous.

“Across Southern California, it’s been clear time after time the devastating and lasting impacts from climate change. Whether it’s longer and more severe heatwaves and droughts or deadlier wildfires that ravage through our communities, it is the responsibility of the federal government to protect our communities by following the science, regulating emissions, and investing in clean energy infrastructure to curb this reality.

“This announcement will not only put our country behind in leading clean energy innovation and jobs creation, but it will place our communities at further risk from hotter temperatures, more extreme wildfires, and increased sea levels — all because Donald Trump is willing to sell out the American people for his billionaire oil friends.

“I’m committed to standing strong in Congress against the Trump Administration’s reckless environmental policies that are putting our communities in danger. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to do the same.”
