Derek Tran Slams MAGA Michelle Steel for her Devotion to Trump on MSNBC

This Sunday, U.S. Army Veteran, Consumer Rights Lawyer, Small Business Owner, and Democratic Candidate in California’s 45th Congressional District Derek Tran joined the Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart to discuss his neck-and-neck race against MAGA Extremist Michelle Steel. The interview came on the heels of disgraced former President Trump posting an unhinged and full-throated endorsement of his acolyte MAGA Michelle Steel on Truth Social.

In response to a question about the deranged Trump endorsement, which included the same disgusting red-baiting attacks that have defined MAGA Michelle Steel’s campaign, Tran said, “This is something we always knew was going to happen. Michelle Steel is MAGA, and she’s always been MAGA. The xenophobic attacks from Trump and Michelle Steel has always been there. This is a disgraceful, losing campaign from Michelle Steel.”

Discussing Michelle Steel’s atrocious record on reproductive health, Tran blasted Steel, “Californians enshrined [reproductive rights] in Proposition 1, yet we have a MAGA extremist, Michelle Steel, who has signed onto the Life at Conception bill two times because she doesn’t care about the will of Californians… she only cares about corporate interests.”

Since taking office, Steel co-sponsored a national abortion ban that includes no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother; voted against the Right to Contraception Act, which would protect a person’s ability to access contraceptives; and voted yes on a bill that would have banned FDA approved Mifepristone nationwide.

Despite being called out repeatedly by Tran, as well as the New York Times and Rolling Stone Magazine, Steel continues to lie to her constituents about her extreme anti-reproductive rights voting record. In 2021 and 2024, Rep. Steel cosponsored the Life at Conception Act, a bill to enact a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother. Steel voted against the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act of 2022, which protects a person's ability to access out-of-state abortion services. She opposed the Women’s Health Protection Act in both 2021 and 2022.
