Nonpartisan USC Poll Shows Derek Tran Winning CA-45
Tran Positioned To Flip Red To Blue Congressional District
Garden Grove, CA — In a sign of growing momentum for CA-45 Democratic nominee Derek Tran, a nonpartisan USC Poll released on September 24 shows Tran two points ahead of two-term Republican incumbent Michelle Steel. This comes on the heels of multiple race raters moving the race between Tran and Steel to “Toss Up” status.
From USC’s nonpartisan polling memo:
Michelle Steel and Derek Tran are in a neck-and-neck race. Perhaps more than any other district polled, the underlying partisanship favors Democrats.
In CA-45, Democrat Adam Schiff leads Republican Steve Garvey by 6.8 percentage points and Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump in CA-45 by 8.3 percentage points
[In] CA-45…38.7% of 2022 non-voters who plan to vote in 2024 support Democrat Derek Tran while 23.9% of these 2022 non-voters likely to vote in 2024 are for Republican Michelle Steel.
Voters who are excited to take part in the 2024 election favor House Democratic candidates by large margins in the six purple districts polled.
“Derek Tran is well positioned to unseat Michelle Steel in November,” said Tran campaign manager Gowri Buddiga. “Voters are scrutinizing Steel’s record of consistently voting against the interests of women and working families, and they are ready for new representation.”
POLITICO: Dems hold slight edge in California swing House districts
Dustin Gardiner | September 24, 2024
If the road to a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives runs through California, a new poll suggests Democrats are narrowly on track to get there.
The survey, conducted by researchers at the University of Southern California, California State University Long Beach and Cal Poly Pomona, found Democratic candidates to be slightly ahead of Republicans in four of the state’s six most closely-watched swing districts.
Democrat Derek Tran is leading Republican incumbent Michelle Steel by nearly two points, 45 to 43 percent. The suburban Orange County district, CA-45, is deeply purple.
