Derek Tran Issues Statement on Georgia School Shooting

Garden Grove Workers’ Rights Advocate, U.S. Army Veteran, City Commissioner, Small Business Owner, and CA-45 congressional candidate Derek Tran issued the following statement in response to the shooting at Apalachee High in Winder, Georgia today that killed four people:

"It’s heartbreaking to witness yet another school shooting, this time at Apalachee High in Georgia, so soon into the new school year. As a father of three in public school, I’m outraged and heartbroken for the families who woke up today, sent their children off to learn, and are now living a nightmare. We cannot continue to allow this tragedy to repeat itself. In Congress, I will fight every day for common-sense solutions to end the epidemic of gun violence. Our kids deserve to grow up, learn, and thrive—without the ever-present fear of being gunned down in their classrooms."

During her time in Congress, Michelle Steel has consistently voted against the interests of her community while relying on funding from gun lobbyists, Big Oil, and anti-abortion extremists. Despite her claims of representing middle-class values, Steel has voted against common-sense gun safety legislation such as raising the age to buy semi-automatic weapons from 18 to 21 and against enhanced background checks– a slap in the face to her constituents who have been devastated by the scourge of mass shootings.
